Creating a Smarter Duolingo — Meet Parrot

Parrot reimagines the Duolingo experience by bringing learning tips to the forefront of each lesson. The project focuses on reducing cognitive gaps between grammar explanations and practice, making language learning more intuitive and connected. Through a refined task flow, clearer visual hierarchy, and context-based prompts, Parrot helps users understand the “why” behind every word—not just the “what.”

The project focused on a small yet crucial task flow in the Duolingo app—the Tips feature. In the original version, it sits quietly in a corner of the home screen, often overlooked by users. However, many learners struggle to start new lessons without proper context, making these quick insights essential for understanding grammar and patterns. Parrot repositions the Tips experience as a core part of learning, giving users the guidance they need right when they need it.
